.Digimon Story Time Stranger is a monster-taming RPG built around the relationship between humans and Digimon, combining turn-based battles, team building, exploration, and a story centered on the collapse of the world. The Nintendo Switch version follows an agent of a secret organization whose investigation begins shortly before a devastating explosion in Tokyo. After awakening eight years in the past, the protagonist becomes involved in a wider mystery spanning different points in time, the human world, and the Digital World.

Build teams from more than 450 Digimon
Collecting and developing Digimon is one of the main progression systems in Time Stranger. Bandai Namco describes a roster of more than 450 Digimon that players can collect, tame, raise, and use in battle. This large roster gives team building much more importance than simply choosing the strongest creatures available. Different Digimon can fill different roles, and developing a balanced group becomes part of preparing for the game’s turn-based encounters.
Turn-based battles reward team planning
Combat uses a turn-based RPG structure in which the composition and development of the player’s Digimon team directly influence battle strategy. Raising Digimon, strengthening their abilities, and developing new forms gives players multiple ways to prepare for difficult encounters. Instead of treating monster collection as a side activity, Time Stranger integrates it into the central battle system, so progression comes from both advancing the story and improving the relationships and capabilities within the team.
Travel between the human and Digital Worlds
The story moves between the human world and the Digital World: Iliad, creating two distinct settings for exploration. The protagonist’s investigation gradually expands from events in Tokyo into a much larger journey involving Digimon, parallel worlds, and changes to the timeline itself. Nintendo describes the adventure as one shaped by encounters with different characters and the consequences of changing fate, giving the narrative a stronger mystery focus than a straightforward monster-collecting journey.
A Digimon RPG designed for both longtime fans and newcomers
Time Stranger does not rely only on familiarity with earlier Digimon games. Bandai Namco positions it as an entry point for RPG players while still offering a large roster, progression systems, and references that established Digimon fans can appreciate. Its combination of monster training, turn-based combat, exploration, and a story about the connection between humans and Digimon gives the game a clearer identity as a full-scale RPG rather than simply a collection-focused title.
