Disco Dodgeball – REMIX is a sports experience that combines dodgeball and first-person arena, throwing players into fast-paced battles in neon-lit spaces. The game supports up to eight players, fighting together in TRON-style arenas, with 21 different game modes, from classic Dodgeball, Grand Prix to Elimination.

Fun but lacking in depth

The idea of picking up balls, throwing balls, and dodging attacks in a vibrant space is truly innovative. However, once players get used to the mechanics, the challenges start to lack depth. Some game modes require unpredictable actions, making the experience more frustrating than fun. For example, the mode that requires throwing a yellow ball into a scoreboard in the middle of the ceiling seems simple, but in reality, it confuses players because the rules are unclear.

Multiplayer: Smooth but not really convenient

Disco Dodgeball – REMIX has a flexible matchmaking structure, allowing players to enter or leave matches seamlessly. However, creating private rooms is limited, forcing players to invite Switch members individually instead of having a convenient private matchmaking system. Some groups have had to use Discord to support communication, showing that the game’s built-in system is not really optimized.

Diverse character customization but not attractive enough

This game allows players to customize their bots, from wheels, decorative horns to weapons. However, unlocking these items is not really motivating, because they do not affect gameplay much but are only aesthetic. Players may feel less excited after a while of experiencing.

Single-player Content: Limited and Uninspired

Beyond Arcade, Training, and Challenges, Disco Dodgeball – REMIX doesn’t have much compelling content to keep single players engaged. While the online leaderboards provide some motivation, they’re not enough to keep players coming back for more. The split-screen mode for local multiplayer is solid, but not a standout.

Disco Dodgeball – REMIX has some interesting elements, including a bot customization system, responsive gameplay, vibrant lighting effects, and a vibrant soundtrack. However, the lack of an effective matchmaking system, lackluster single-player, and unnecessary complexity in some modes hold the game back from reaching its full potential. With some added depth to the gameplay, this could be a more unique and engaging sports title.
