Nova Hearts is a colorful dating sim and turn-based strategy RPG that mixes romance, superhero transformations, and tactical battles. Players follow Luce, a young woman who returns to her hometown of Vermillion for the summer. Her plans quickly change when a mysterious cosmic force gives her magical powers and transforms other residents into heroes and villains. Together with her friends Will and CJ, Luce must investigate the strange events affecting the town. Between battles, players can text friends, develop relationships, make choices, and perhaps find romance along the way.

Return to a very different Vermillion
Luce returns to Vermillion after spending time in the big city. She hopes the summer will give her an opportunity to escape her past and reconnect with familiar people. Instead, something extraordinary begins happening around town. A mysterious cosmic force grants Luce supernatural abilities and an impressive magical transformation. She is not the only person affected. Other residents also develop strange powers, creating both new superheroes and dangerous villains. Luce joins Will and CJ to investigate the phenomenon and protect Vermillion from the threats emerging around them. The mystery gradually becomes an important part of her summer as the group searches for answers about where these powers came from and why certain people received them. Nova Hearts combines this supernatural storyline with the everyday lives of its characters. Saving the town may be important, but friendships, parties, personal problems, and complicated relationships continue alongside the larger cosmic crisis.
Build relationships through your choices
Relationships form one of the main parts of Nova Hearts. Players meet a diverse cast of characters throughout Vermillion and decide how Luce interacts with them. Nine characters can become friends, romantic interests, or even people Luce chooses to antagonize. Conversations provide different responses, allowing player decisions to influence how individual relationships develop. These interactions can happen face to face or through text messages. An interactive phone interface gives Luce access to different apps where she can communicate with friends, follow gossip, and manage parts of her social life. The dating mechanics also allow for different types of relationships. A friendship can remain platonic, develop into romance, or move in another direction depending on the choices made throughout the story. This gives the visual novel sections considerable importance. Conversations are not simply breaks between battles. They help define Luce’s relationships and shape the personal side of her unusual summer in Vermillion.
Fight villains in strategic battles
When supernatural trouble appears, Nova Hearts switches from conversations and dating to strategic turn-based combat. Luce and her allies transform into their cosmic alter-egos and use unique powers against monsters, villains, and enemies from another dimension. Battles require players to think about the order of actions rather than simply choosing the strongest attack. A timeline system helps organize upcoming moves and provides opportunities to coordinate abilities between different heroes. Combining attacks can produce powerful team combos and significantly increase the damage dealt to enemies. This makes cooperation an important part of the combat system. As the heroes grow stronger, they can unlock additional powers and gain more options for future encounters. The turn-based structure gives players time to consider each move while still maintaining the colorful energy of a magical superhero battle. Combat therefore complements the relationship systems instead of feeling disconnected from the rest of Luce’s adventure.
Balance superhero life with romance
Nova Hearts builds its identity around the unusual combination of superhero action and dating simulation. One moment may involve planning attacks against an interdimensional enemy, while the next could focus on texting someone Luce wants to know better. The visual novel structure allows player choices to drive many of these personal interactions. Relationships with friends, civilians, and even villains can develop in different directions. This creates an interesting connection between Luce’s ordinary social life and her new supernatural responsibilities. The bright 2D presentation and transformation sequences strengthen the magical-girl atmosphere, while the interactive phone helps make Vermillion feel like a modern social environment. Instead of treating romance as a minor side activity, Nova Hearts places relationships alongside combat as a central part of progression. Players are constantly balancing the mystery surrounding the cosmic powers with the friendships and romantic possibilities developing around Luce.
