Rintaro Okabe is a university student and self-proclaimed mad scientist who operates the Future Gadget Laboratory with his friends in Akihabara. Their inventions are usually more entertaining than revolutionary, but one experiment unexpectedly gains the ability to send emails into the past. These messages can change events that have already occurred, creating new worldlines with consequences that Okabe cannot initially predict. What appears to be an incredible scientific breakthrough gradually draws the group into a much larger conspiracy. As timelines change, Okabe must understand the consequences of interfering with history while trying to protect the people closest to him. The combination of time travel, science, mystery, and personal relationships remains at the center of the STEINS;GATE experience.

Shape the story with the Phone Trigger System

STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT retains the Phone Trigger System that makes everyday communication an important part of the narrative. Players interact with Okabe’s phone and decide how to respond to incoming calls and emails. Answering, replying, or ignoring particular communications can influence how the story develops and ultimately determine which ending becomes available. The system avoids constantly presenting obvious decision menus, allowing choices to feel more naturally connected to Okabe’s daily life. Players need to pay attention to conversations and messages if they want to explore different routes. Multiple endings provide reasons to return after completing the story, especially because seemingly minor decisions can eventually lead events in dramatically different directions.

Experience completely renewed visuals and audio

RE:BOOT significantly updates the presentation rather than simply increasing the resolution of the original game. Characters, backgrounds, and event illustrations have been redrawn from scratch, with character designer huke returning to redesign outfits and accessories. The number of event stills is approximately double that of the original Xbox 360 release, while background artwork has increased by around 20 percent. E-mote animation also gives characters smoother movement and more expressive reactions. The original Japanese voice cast returns to re-record the in-game dialogue, while composer Takeshi Abo has remade the background music. These changes preserve the recognizable identity of STEINS;GATE while giving Akihabara and its characters a substantially refreshed presentation.

Discover new scenes and a new worldline

STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT also expands the narrative itself. The scenario has been refined for smoother pacing and includes new dialogue and additional narrative text. More importantly, the game introduces a brand-new Gamma Worldline and ending scenario, providing material that was not part of the original story. This makes RE:BOOT more than a visual remake for players who already know the major events surrounding Okabe, Kurisu, Mayuri, Daru, and the other laboratory members. Familiar developments can now be experienced through an expanded script, while the additional route gives longtime fans something genuinely new to uncover.
